[CLASS=Headline]1. Overview of Ashenvale[/CLASS]
Ashenvale was the lush, green forest where the Night Elves made their old cities. Most of the Night Elves lived there until the invasion by the Burning Legion, where Ashenvale was all but destroyed. After its regrowth and the birth of Teldrassil, Ashenvale was reinhabited, but not by Night Elves. Orcs, Trolls, Tauren, satrys, and furbolgs took over the majority of Ashenvale. Now, the battle between the Alliance and the Horde rages even more fiercely.
When the Horde expanded into Ashenvale, they had plans for many outposts. However, only Splintertree Post and the Zoram'gar Outpost were actually successfully constructed. Some were planned as simple supply route checkpoints, for wagons bearing foodstuffs and supplies between the two outposts and the Crossroads. But the furbolg aggression has kept the Horde expansion in check, for the time being.
Ashenvale is a wonderous, magical forest, with lots of colors and trees. Very, very tall trees. Probably 50 people around hugging. Ashenvale also has lots of mountainous cliffs, though it doesn't look like it. Night Elves and Rogues have many hiding and ambushing places in this forest. Be alert, be vigilant...
Places of Interest: Ashenvale is a nice and interesting place. A place that is often fought over is the Talondeep Path. It leads into Windshear Crag, of the Stonetalon Mountains. It is the main route, other than flying, for Alliance players to get to the Stonetalon Mountains.
The Zoram Strand is also another main battle ground. The Alliance are often there, fighting off the Horde from the Zoram'gar Outpost. Though not as big a battlefield as Astranaar/Splintertree Post raids, it is still quite a dangerous area.
North of the Zoram Strand is the temple to Blackfathom Deeps. An instance for higher-leveled 20s, it has quests for both Horde and Alliance. Though many transverse it often, I have rarely witnessed actual battles within it; often, just one or two members skirmishing.
The entrance to Warsong Gulch, the 10v10 CTF Battleground between the Barrens and Ashenvale. Fast-paced and quick fun. Refer to the Stand of the Silverwings part for more information.
And lastly, the northeastern corner of Ashenvale. Often unexplored, many players wonder at what exists there. Well, there is a gateway to the Emerald Dream, for one. And there is also an Elite dragon guardian, capable of incinerating any who dare to disturb him. Gather your party of 60s before trying this big boy.
- Astranaar (Alliance): This is a full-fledged town, with a General and Trade Goods vendors, a flight master, and an Inn. No trainers. Level 40 Guards.
- Splintertree Post (Horde): A small town containing General and Trade Goods vendors, a flight master and an Inn. Level 40 guards.
- Zoram'gar Outpost (Horde): Another small town, containing only one fish vendor and a flight master. However, there is no Inn and few guards.
Graveyards: There are 3 graveyards in Ashenvale. One is outside Astranaar, another northeast of Splintertree Post. The final one is just within Darkshore; if you die near the Zoram Strand, you usually respawn there.

For Ashenvale, I will begin with Alliance, then switch to Horde, and continue on like that.
The Sentinel's War:
Heading south from Darkshore, you'll enter the mystical forests of Ashenvale. Right now, at the northwestern corner of Ashenvale, you've yet to encounter most of the magical trees. For now, head south and meet at Maestra's Post. Find Delgren the Purifier, then head south along the path, stopping at the temple to tell the dryad about her sister. Head east, and find Astranaar. If there is a Horde raid on the city when you arrive, assist your allies! Fight off the Horde. If not, walk around and gather your quests that will send you to Stonetalon Peak and the mountains.
Flight of the Silverwings:
Anyways, onto the Horde. Heading north from the Barrens, you'll come onto Silverwing Outpost, a small Alliance settlement of Sentinels. Head southeast just slightly and find the quest giver. Raid Silverwing, slaughter the guards and the captain, then head north to Splintertree Post to report of your great-doing. Now, look around the place, gathering quests as required, and read up on the Great Hunt. That'll be done soon. First, make sure you have all the quests. If you haven't yet, give the scout in the watchtower your report. That should leave two more of your little scrolls to give out. The other rider is on the path slightly northwest of the Warsong Lumber Camp, which is just to your east. She patrols the path, and is always mercilessly slaughtered by Alliance, so be patient. Once you find her (she is mounted) head northwest to the Zoram'gar Outpost. Grab the path, deposit the note, and fly back.
The Talondeep Path:
The Talondeep Path lies south and slightly east of Astranaar. Once you reach there, be on alert. Many players choose to hide in the deeps of the path, and will ambush unaware travellers. Best of all, you should just run. This goes for Horde players as well; this place is not a friendly place. Once you pass it, you'll be in the Stonetalon Mountains. From here on, refer to the currently incomplete Stonetalon Mountains Guide to finish these quests. Let's assume that you're done and flying back to Astranaar for now, however.
Th Great, Though Often Frustrating, Hunt:
Prepare yourselves! One and all! The Great Hunt draws near! Yeah, it didn't feel so great once you begin it. You've got to hunt down three really "special" animals. They are all Alliance friendly, not that it matters much. Ursangous, Shadumbra, and Sharptalon (Weakest to Strongest!). I can only really pronounce Sharptalon without screwing up. Well, they hide in various places, and they wander a lot too. It is pretty difficult to find them all, but I'll give as many pointers as I can. I've hunted down each one three times, finding Ursangous a lot more than three times, and got some approximate locations. If you finish all three of them, you will get a hunting cloak from Senani.
Ursangos: South of Astranaar. Also ran into him close to the road looking for Shadumbra. Not really CLOSE to the road, but sort of. You get the idea.
Shadumbra: Around Raynewood Retreat. Also found him near the river (once, very strange)
Sharptalon: Around Splintertree Post, usually to the south.
Evil Within Ashenvale:
The Alliance have probably been withering here while I did the Horde, so let's get back on track. You've got plenty of quests to do, and there is no effective way to streamline them! Unless you've done this about five times already, in which case, you can streamline them. I will work on this, but until then, I must put up the famed notice: Under Construction!
The Stand of the Silverwings:
Warsong Gulch, lying between Ashenvale and the Barrens, is a Battleground. Warsong Gulch features two bases, one for the Warsong Outriders, and the other for the Silverwing Sentinels, and a 10v10 CTF Match. Refer to the Warsong Gulch Battleground page for more specific information. The Alliance entrance is in southern Ashenvale, almost directly south from Raynewood Retreat. The red portal leads to the Battleground. Or, you can sign up directly from a city; ask a guard for directions.
Quest Pages:
Well, for Ashenvale, I've split the quest pages as so:
Astranaar and Western Ashenvale, Alliance
Raynewood Retreat and Eastern Ashenvale, Alliance
The Forests of Ashenvale, Alliance
Splintertree Post and Eastern Ashenvale, Horde
Zoram'gar Outpost and Western Ashenvale, Horde
The Wilds of Ashenvale, Horde
