Don't let another day get ruined on WoW
Submitted by EpikPhailure on Wed, 01/06/2010 - 11:43am
I wrote a letter to Blizzard and posted it on the suggestion forums for World of Warcraft.
We have all been there, a bad player who can ruin a pug. That jerk who cleared the Guild Bank of all the worthwhile items to sell in the Auction House and then quit the guild, the trolls who think trade chat is the place to get their ADHD attention they are not getting at home… What could you do before now?
Go to the official World of Warcraft Forums and post a complaint about them, then risk the same player rolling a level 1 toon and making up stuff about you there.
Go on the public channels yourself and try to warn players about them, which will usually get the same result as using the World of Warcraft forums and a lot of other people joining in against you.
Do nothing, grit your teeth, and play on. Your day has been ruined once again.
Will somebody please do something to stop these people?
Help is closer than you think.

I was contacted over twitter about this (I was also posting a link to my forums post on twitter as well) about a new project called Wowjackass.com. The first moment I set foot on the website, I knew I had to support this movement.
Whenever I recruit a new player to my guild, I check them on wowjackass first. With the new Cross Realm Looking For Group, if I have doubts about a player, I check them on the site to see if I need to worry about a Ninja in the group. There are so many ways I use this site. I want to be clear that I am biased on this story, that I support this site fully. That is one reason I am writing this, to help get WowJackass.com some more exposure. The more people who know about this site and use it, the more it helps everyone else!
When you are submitting a person to WoWJackAss.com it is best if you have screen shots of the incident, because after all, screen shot or it didn’t happen is usually the only defense the jack ass will have against you. Post links to the screen shots in your post, for maximum effect and exposure.
The site is operated by Sam, a website designer for a state agency in Washington State; he has done all the work on the website except the graphics, which he hired out for. Sam and his wife have been playing World of Warcraft for over 3 years and they were inspired to create the site because of the few players they have crossed paths with, that make the game unbearable. He said in the last year he has seen a rise in the number of Jack Asses in the game, and is not sure why, but he had enough and set out to make a website devoted to shining the light on the cockroaches of the game to watch them scatter.
Trolls, Ninjas, Jack asses, whatever you call them thrive off of the ability to harass and move on. They too like their anonymity so they can find new players to exploit for their sick pleasures. By putting the spot light on these people, it is not as easy for them to hide anymore.
With the new cross realm looking for group system, a lot of people who are well known on their realm as a jack ass, have now had a fresh new way to harass and hurt other players. With WowJackass.com they can be pointed out and shown the door.
Myself, if I am in a random cross realm pug, I check all the names on wowjackass.com and if I find one that has a screen shot of them doing something that will ruin my run, I vote to kick them. If it fails, I leave. I will take the debuff in order to save my pleasure.
WowJackass.com was officially launched on October 1st, 2009 and since then at the time of this writing has had over 1,400 players submitted as Jackasses.
Sam’s future plans with the site are an Alliance vs. Horde comparisons, new graphics to display stats, a WowJackAss add-on (I am very excited for this myself), and also the added feature of different languages to display the site in.
You can also follow WowJackAss.com on twitter, @wowjackass to know right away when a new jackass has been added on your realm.
See you in game, and hope to never see you on WowJackAss.com
