Raid Leadership Woes (too many for the run - what do you do?)

I have to say - I love playing this game with the individuals i'm fortunate enough to call my guild members - which is why it sucks when we have too many show up for raid night.

Since we're not capable of doing 25-man content on our own due to never having 25 online at a time (record i think is 21, just after LK launched) it becomes a righteous pain when i "get" to choose who sits out.

I have no delusions of power, I take my turn sitting out like the others, when possible, and tonight was an example of a time when it wouldn't work. We had 2 DKs, 2 hunters (one showed up 15 mins late), a mage, 3 healers, 2 tanks, a rogue (me) and a retadin. Obviously too many for a 10-man group, but whom to take?

First off, for some fights we need 3 healers still - and we always need 2 tanks, so there's 5/10. Since i'm leading the raid, it's hard to sit out, so there's 1/5 dps spots. For the others, we're left with the choices of the pally, a warlock, two DKs, a mage and the 2 hunters (only 1 of which is online, the other is "confirmed" in calendar).

I know that we're trying for Sartharion +1, so AoE is a must with the adds - in addition to looking at doing the plague and Military wings (at least first 2 bosses from each - it's been a long day) and coming back for wing-end bosses when we're fresh.

I end up picking the hunter who was on, warlock, retadin and mage because they are capable AoE and single target players/classes; one of the DKs has been in every raid we've done so far, and the other only signed up an hour before the run - much later than everybody else.

I'd like to get some feedback from you all in regards to whether or not you would have made a different choice, and why.

This is probably the single

This is probably the single biggest thing I hate with leading raids. Inevitably someone always feels that they should not have been the person choose to sit, even if they are asked to roll against others for a slot. In the end, it is more grief on my part, hurt feelings on theirs and just a general frustration that I wish there were a way to avoid. You do what you gotta do though to ensure the success of the raid. As to your specific choices. I always choose those who are online at raid time regardless of who is signed up (unless of course we are lacking a certain role, like healing). After that, I would do as you did and choose what would work best with the planned raid content.

agreed. ret pally was on

agreed. ret pally was on before raid, but was travelling to another location physically for the raid, back online for start time, all others that were in raid were on in advance of time... in the end didn't get the 1 drake - people were too tired from a week of work to focus on learning a new strategy on a friday night. oh well, free loot on easy-mode bosses is always a good way to kick off a weekend! Next up - raiding Undercity for leader #3 in the war-bear effort!
